How it works
From a sentence in your AI app to an approved change in your CAD
CADMCP.AI has three parts: one connector URL you add to your AI app, our server behind it, and a small agent on your computer that talks to your CAD program. A person approves every change inside the CAD program.
What happens, in order
You create an account
Sign up on cadmcp.ai and choose a plan. Payments go through Stripe; we never see your full card number.
You connect your AI app
In Claude you add a custom connector with the CADMCP.AI URL. In Codex you add it with one command. Either way you then sign in with your CADMCP.AI account. You never give us your AI keys.
You install the agent and pair your computer
Download the signed installer from your account. The agent shows a short code; you type it on cadmcp.ai, and that computer is linked to your account. For SOLIDWORKS the installer also adds our SOLIDWORKS add-in, where the approval card lives.
You ask in plain words
“Measure the wall thickness.” “Make a 160 mm flange with eight bolt holes.” Your AI app picks the CADMCP.AI tools it needs. Reading and measuring go to your computer and change nothing.
You approve, or decline, in the CAD program
A change becomes a request on an approval card in your CAD program, showing exactly what will happen. It runs only when a person approves it there. In SOLIDWORKS each approval works once, for that one request.
The result comes back
The outcome and any measurements travel back to your AI app, so the conversation can carry on: check it, adjust it, ask for the next feature.
The AI proposes. A person approves. Then it runs.
Your AI app can read, measure and plan. Anything that would change your model becomes a request that shows the exact change. It runs only after a person approves it inside the CAD program, and you can always decline.
The agent dials out
The agent opens an encrypted connection from your computer to our server. Nothing on the internet can connect in to your computer, and you can pause all AI access from the agent’s tray icon at any time.
Cloud CAD needs no agent
Onshape runs in the cloud, so its connector is planned to use Onshape’s REST API directly, with no agent on your computer.
Four pieces, two of them yours
| Piece | Where it runs | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Your AI app | Claude or Codex, on your own plan | Holds the conversation and decides which CADMCP.AI tools to call. AI usage is billed by your AI provider. |
| CADMCP.AI server | Our servers | The one connector URL. Checks your sign-in and plan, and passes each request to your paired computer. |
| CADMCP.AI Agent | Your computer | Receives signed requests over an outgoing connection, checks them, and hands them to the CAD program. Shows recent calls and a pause switch. |
| Your CAD program | Your computer, your licence | Does the work through its official interface. Shows the approval card; only a person can approve a change. |
What passes through, and what stays
This is how the service is designed. We will confirm it in the Privacy Policy and on the Security page before launch.
- Your CAD files stay on your computer. The agent does not upload them.
- The requests your AI app sends to CADMCP.AI tools, and the results that come back (for example feature names, dimensions, file names and, if you allow it, screenshots), pass through our server on the way.
- We keep a record of each call for security, without the request content.
- We do not train AI models on your requests, results or files.
The honest limits
- Your computer must be on, with the agent running and the CAD program open, for anything that reads or changes a model.
- If you pair more than one computer, requests go to the one you mark as active, so a change never appears on a computer you are not sitting at.
- Do not use the online service for export-controlled data (for example ITAR).
- Drawings, bills of materials and other outputs are drafts for a person to check.
