Connectors FreeCAD
FreeCAD connector
- Planned
- FreeCAD Python API
Open-source parametric CAD through FreeCAD's built-in Python interface. With CADMCP.AI you would ask for this work in plain words from Claude or Codex, and every change would wait for a person’s approval.
- Your AI app
- CADMCP.AI server
- Agent on your computer
- FreeCAD Python API
- A person approves
- FreeCAD
Status: planned. The FreeCAD connector is not built yet; SOLIDWORKS comes first. This page describes what the FreeCAD connector is designed to do, so you can tell us whether it fits your work. Nothing on it has been tested with FreeCAD.
Examples of requests
The kind of work this connector is for. You would write your own the same way: say what you want, with sizes and names.
- Make a 50 by 30 by 10 mm block with a 6 mm hole in each corner.
- Put the main dimensions in a spreadsheet and link the sketch to it.
- Tell me which objects in this document have errors.
- Export the body as STEP and as STL.
The tasks it should cover
- Create PartDesign bodies, sketches and constraints
- Pad, pocket, revolve, fillet and pattern
- Drive dimensions from a spreadsheet
- Create TechDraw pages for review
- Export to STEP, STL and DXF
- Report on a document: objects, properties, errors
What any connector can do depends on the program, its version and your licence. We will publish what the FreeCAD connector really does when it is ready, and not before.
FreeCAD Python API
The FreeCAD connector is planned to use FreeCAD's Python API, the same interface FreeCAD's own workbenches and macros are written in.
The CADMCP.AI Agent runs on the computer where FreeCAD is installed, next to a small FreeCAD panel that shows each change for approval.
The AI proposes. A person approves. Then it runs.
Your AI app can read, measure and plan. Anything that would change your model becomes a request that shows the exact change. It runs only after a person approves it inside the CAD program, and you can always decline.
Your tools, your licences
- FreeCAD installed on your computer (it is free and open source)
- Your own AI app: Claude (Free, Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise) or OpenAI Codex. AI usage is billed to your own AI plan.
- A CADMCP.AI account. Early access is free.
Your model stays yours
Your CAD files stay on your computer. Requests and tool results pass through our server on their way to your AI app, and we do not train AI models on them.
