Connectors Onshape
Onshape connector
- Planned
- Onshape REST API
Cloud CAD through Onshape's REST API: Part Studios, variables, assemblies and exports. With CADMCP.AI you would ask for this work in plain words from Claude or Codex, and every change would wait for a person’s approval.

- Onshape
Status: planned. The Onshape connector is not built yet; SOLIDWORKS comes first. This page describes what the Onshape connector is designed to do, so you can tell us whether it fits your work. Nothing on it has been tested with Onshape.
Examples of requests
The kind of work this connector is for. You would write your own the same way: say what you want, with sizes and names.
- List the variables in this Part Studio and what each one drives.
- Change the variable thickness to 4 mm.
- Show the parts in this assembly with their part numbers.
- Export this Part Studio as STEP.
The tasks it should cover
- Read Part Studios, features and variables
- Add or change features and variables
- Work with configurations
- Read assemblies and mates
- Read and set part metadata
- Export to STEP and other formats
What any connector can do depends on the program, its version and your licence. We will publish what the Onshape connector really does when it is ready, and not before.
Onshape REST API
Onshape runs in the cloud, so this connector is planned to work differently from the others: it connects to Onshape through Onshape's own REST API, using access you grant from your Onshape account. Features it adds are ordinary Onshape features.
No agent is needed: Onshape is cloud CAD, so our server talks to Onshape's API with the access you grant. Changes are still designed to wait for a person's approval before anything is written to your document.
The AI proposes. A person approves. Then it runs.
Your AI app can read, measure and plan. Anything that would change your model becomes a request that shows the exact change. It runs only after a person approves it inside the CAD program, and you can always decline.
Your tools, your licences
- An Onshape account with access to the documents you want to work on
- Your own AI app: Claude (Free, Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise) or OpenAI Codex. AI usage is billed to your own AI plan.
- A CADMCP.AI account. Early access is free.
Your model stays yours
Your documents stay in your Onshape account. Requests and tool results pass through our server on their way to your AI app, and we do not train AI models on them.
