Your first project

Build the eight-hole flange from our showcase: plan it, approve it, measure it and export it. It takes a few minutes and shows every part of the flow.

Before you start

  • Your AI app is connected (Claude or Codex).
  • The agent is running and paired (Install the agent).
  • SOLIDWORKS is open, with our add-in’s task pane visible.

1. Ask for a plan first

Planning changes nothing, so it is a safe first step. Type:

Plan a flange 160 mm OD x 16 mm thick with a 60 mm bore and 8 x 12 mm bolt holes on a 125 mm bolt circle. Don’t build it yet.

The AI describes the features it would create. Check the sizes. If anything is missing, it should ask you.

2. Ask it to build

Create a flange 160 mm OD x 16 mm thick with a 60 mm bore and 8 x 12 mm bolt holes on a 125 mm bolt circle. Save it as Eight_Hole_Flange.

The AI sends a change request. It does not build anything yet.

3. Approve it in SOLIDWORKS

An approval card appears in our add-in’s task pane in SOLIDWORKS, showing the request and its target. Read it, then choose Approve and Run, or Reject if anything looks wrong. The approval works once, for that one request.

4. Check the result

Back in your AI app, ask:

Measure the part: overall diameter, thickness, bore and the bolt circle.

Reading and measuring need no approval. Compare the numbers with what you asked for.

5. Export it

Export this part as STEP.

An export is also a request: it appears on the card, and once approved the file is written to the add-in’s exports folder, never over an existing file.

Tips for good requests

  • Give sizes with units, and say which sizes matter most.
  • Name the file you want.
  • Say what you do not want, for example “no drawing”.
  • If you give no sizes, ask the AI to state its assumptions before it builds. Our phone stand in the showcase came from “i want a phone stand for my desk”, and the AI’s assumptions are worth reading before you approve.
  • Look at orientation as well as size: that same phone stand was built lying on its back.

Next

Open one of your own parts and ask what it is made of, how heavy it is, or which faces are thinnest. Then try a small edit and watch it arrive on the approval card.
